How to Access NVivo?

Training sessions can be delivered in-person in Room 161 Murray Library or virtually via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

  • In-Person Sessions: Room 161 Murray Library is equipped with NVivo 14 on all computers.
  • Virtual Sessions: To ensure a seamless experience, participants should ensure NVivo is installed prior to the session:
    • USask Managed Computers: NVivo 12 or 14 is available for free through the software center.
    • Personal Computers: If using a personal device, contact IT Requisitions at it_requisitions@usask.ca for a license key and download NVivo from the Lumivero website.
    • Mac Users: It is recommended to use the USask Remote Computer Lab to access the Windows version of NVivo. Instructions are available here.

What Does the Training Include?

The NVivo training sessions last approximately 3 hours and include:

  • An overview of qualitative research: ethics, recruitment, data collection, and transcription.
  • A walkthrough of NVivo 14's capabilities, including:
    • Importing and organizing data.
    • Creating codes, using memos, and developing a codebook.
    • Conducting basic queries to explore data.
  • Tips and tricks for efficient coding.
  • A hands-on practice session using sample data.

Customized Training: Sessions are designed to meet the needs of individuals or groups and can be tailored to specific research goals or types of analyses.

Melanie Kaczur, BA, MA

Qualitative Research Manager and Specialist

Melanie joined the Canadian Hub for Applied and Social Research (CHASR) as the Assistant Mixed Methods Research Manager in 2023. In 2024, she was promoted to her current role, where she oversees qualitative research projects, transcription services, and NVivo 14 training for Windows. As a certified NVivo 14 Expert, Melanie brings extensive experience in qualitative research methods and practical application of NVivo for analysis.
